Ti innovator hub protocol with the calculator?

I wonder if there is any documentation of how the calculators (84+CE or Nspire CXII) talk to an innovator hub with sensors and LEDs. I'm guessing USB bulk transfers but is it some generic protocol such as a USB to UART protocol or something that Ti designed itself? I'm interested to see if I can make a compatible device for the calculators to connect to.
