Centipede: my not-finished-in-time entry for the contest
« on: July 09, 2012, 04:46:36 am »
About two weeks ago I decided I wanted to make a Centipede clone for the contest. Centipede is a classic Atari game.
Sadly enough I only could spend a couple of hours on it, so it did not get done in time.

Here is what I have until now:

As you can see there are still many things lacking:
- You don't die when hit (or win)
- No spiders, no fleas and no scorpions
- graphics aren't so good yet
- Controls need improvement.

But I intend to finish it, so it's not too bad :)

Although it isn't finished, it is still a nice start. :) I look forward to seeing it completed. =)

How do you control your cannon by the way? Using directional buttons or swiping the touchpad like a trackball?
Edit: You know you have a small area at the bottom to move around freely in all directions, don't you?

Very good job, jimbauwens! If you finished you probably would've done very well.  :)

Yeah, looks very good even though it's not finished.

Thanks all for your kind words :)

Currently only the arrow keys, but I plan to change that.
Yes, I just didn't move much in the animation. My area is 4 mushrooms high.

It looks awesome, albeit there's something I don't get. What 'head' do you control when the centipede is split in more than one piece?

Good job, nonetheless!

I think you control the canon, not the centipede.

That's correct. Centipede is kind of like the old space invaders. You control the cannon, and are trying to kill the centipede before it comes down and kills you. :)

Looks like a fun game :D Too bad you couldn't finish it in time for the contest, but I'm glad you're planning to finish it anyway!
