It would probably be easier to recompile or ask someone to recompile the old Ndless programs. That's of course if you have access to the source.

For other purposes, why would it be forbidden ?
but it is legal because the CAS and non-CAS OSes are freely available on TI's official website.
Is it legal? I looked through the license packet that came with the Nspire, and I could not see anything allowing it or disallowing it. So even if it has no restrictions directly provided to you, it may be out there for you to download, but that doesn’t make it legal.
Soda fountains may be open access, but it is still illegal to fill a free water cup with sprite.

Though I’ve only researched the legality of calculators a few times, and other electronic information several times, so I am not an expert.

Hello!! i have a nsprie CX and ive been reading a lot recently but i have a few questions that i hope somebody could answer.

1st) to get the CX CAS SO on my CX do i need to install the nLaunch CX on my calc??
2) ive read the .txt document (README) and says to rename the TNOC'ed OS to phoenix.tns.. does that mean to change the name of the file that i put through TNOC???
3) if something goes wrong could i still get into the maintenance window and delete everything?

Thanks to everyone and if someone could guide me through this process i would really appreciate it

Right, "nLaunch CX" is the generic name for the nLaunch version which works on both the CX and the CX CAS.

Yup.

Yup, but Nspire calculators seldom go really wrong, unless you do silly things such as overclocking the AHB frequency, which triggers severe data corruption.

the file that i put through TNOC is the CX SO or the CX CAS SO??

when it says "transfer phoenix.tns to your calculator in the folder /nlaunch/" i just create the folder on my calc?? or do i need to run another app to create it?

if i follow up this README it will get me the CX CAS so on my CX?? or after this do i need to do anything else??

Thanks again

Since you seem to be aiming at running the CAS OS on the CAS-capable calculator sold as non-CAS, the CAS OS, of course ;)

Yes.

Hello Again... as im trying to get all the files to my calc ive had some problems.
for instance when i want to send the phoenix.tns file to my calc and error shows up and says that i have the wrong handheld for the SO that i want to transfer ( i have a nspire CX and i want to transfer the CX CAS SO)
the same when i want to transfer the nlaunch file...
after reading a bit i thought that i dont have the ndless thing installed on my calc and idk if thats why i cant transfer all this..
so do i need ndless to get the cx cas to work on my calc??

Nope, that's the main upside of nLaunch / nLaunch CX / nLaunchy: being independent of the OS version and of the availability of an arbitrary code execution vulnerability in the OS.

You're certainly using TI's official linking software, which attempts to prevent users from doing valid things. The third-party TILP software doesn't contain such spokes in the wheels, but since you have already installed TI's software, on Windows, you need to work around Windows' limitations on drivers through a (well-described) manual step.

The nLaunch / nLaunch CX / nLaunchy README describes the procedure for upgrading the OS without reinstalling nLaunch, and there's a tutorial on TI-Planet for switching before multiple OS versions :)

Does anybody now how to get the phoenix.tns file on the calc itself when using the student software? I keep getting a "Wrong Handheld type for the OS being sent" error.

Thanks
