Title: Axio Man!
Post by: parserp on August 09, 2012, 03:07:51 pm
Alright, I ripped off tag/portalx a lot (charector, boxes, switches), BUT, this in many other cases is quite an original game. It is 2D, non-scrolling, with pickup-able objects (boxes, guns, tramps), doors/switches, and *possibly* a level editor. I call it Axio Man! (a play off of axiom/axe)
Screenshot:

Here's the stuff that is implemented/working:

-Player movement (with physics :D)
-Blocks of ice (careful, they are slippery!)
-Spikes w/ collision detection
-Pickup-able objects (Tramps, Boxes, Guns)
-Doors/switches
-Exit portal (in the top right corner in the screenie- it does not exit you yet)

Stuff that is going to be coded next:

-3 types of enemies (all do different stuff)
-Make the gun shoot
-Squashers (spikey things that come up, then go down on you (think super mario world))

...And that's all. Here's a download (includes the level from the screenie), you may want to know the controls:

2nd- Jump
Alpha- Pick up/put down boxes
Left/Right arrow keys- move
Up (While releasing a box)- throw the box up into the air
Clear- Quit

Currently it is 8000 bytes, running at 6Mhz with a pause 40, so hopefully I won't have to restrict it to 15Mhz calcs only. :)

Wow, that looks extremely awesome so far with some very familiar stuff ;) . What is the gun for?

Woah, looks awesome ! You gone really far with the physics and all, so I think that you can add levels with the same elements as the first one without any problem, right ?

What is the gun for?
To shoot the enemies. Each one will have a different HP, so you have to shoot them a different amount of times to kill it. :D

Yes, I just change the data for the level and it works. (unlimited boxes/switches ftw)

It looks pretty but..
Currently it is 8000 bytes
I think you should optimize it a bit. O_o

yes of course, but that probably won't happen for a little while longer... ;)

If you need some advice or help to optimize it, I've free time. ;)

Looks great! I love the trampolines, really adds a new dynamic element. I think that everyone should have a project like portalX when they're getting started with real platforming >:D

You hear that Builder? hurry up and release :3

Bump. I stole this idea from Super Mario World. :P (these are the 'squashers' I was referring to)

I like the "squashers" in the screen shot. The added effect of the screen shaking when they hit ther ground is very nice too. :)

And you stole the idea of the "Start of the gif" from my screenshots :P
Anyway, this is really nice :D
Still in 6MHz ?? O.O

If the character flew up a bit (just a couple pixels) whenever the squashers hit would also be a really cool effect.

This looks amazing! Maybe you could make the squashers "tremble" a little before falling, also via Super Mario? :D

I just tried this, and it makes it soooo much cooler. :D Thanks for the idea

Thanks! And yes, I totally forgot about the trembling thing, I'll definitely include that. :D

Doublepost :P
But... it's an update. :D

-added "trembling" to squashers
-character flies up a bit when squashers touch down  (he only goes up 1 pixel right now, I didn't know if more than that would be overwhelming the effect, see what you think)
-the gun shoots :D

As for now, I think I'll optimize it a lot before I add the enemies, so there might not be updates for a while. :)

EDIT: forgot screenie x.x
EDIT2: wrong screenie- now it should be okay :P
