Title: Contest Entry: Escape!
Post by: yunhua98 on May 18, 2011, 03:12:44 pm
...A room many rooms full of huge boxes.

My Axe Contest entry.  ;D  I'm really only showing the restart thing, buttons, and some other stuff, and how to beat the first level.  XD
These will probably be the first four levels though.  ;)  (3rd level isn't shown)

I'm going to have about ~20 built-in levels, and a external level editor.  ;)

I used to play this on my mobile phone, it's pretty cool, some levels are really wicked and hard to play. Not sure if it is a clone, but I love this sort of games :D A puzzle :D

woah, what?  There's a phone version of this game?
this is pretty generic though.  :P  I'm adding more stuff later on.

yes, very small rooms, lots of boxes, find the perfect way to move them to get to exit. No buttons and fancy stuff though.

I used to have several games for my old gameboy that had puzzles like these...
Pokemon was one, and Frogger was another...
I had so much fun playing through those puzzles, and was always disappointed by how short they were...

Awesome game!  Make lots and lots of levels, please?

Ah, cool. An entry that doesn't involve platforms! It's nice to see some variety. I'll be interested in seeing how this progresses. Sometimes simplistic game design makes for the best games. :D

thanks guys.  As for levels, built-in, as I said, around 20, but I might release level packs as App vars.  ;)  Making lots of levels may be my only chance.  XD  and original game elements.  ;)

More levels!  Also added holes in the ground.  ;)

some of those levels are PITAs to beat.  XD

Nice. This looks fun. I thought it had to be a platformer?

Nope, it can be either, or both.  ;)

So it can be a puzzling platformer?

Yes.
it says 'puzzel OR platform', not 'puzzel XOR platform' or anything like that

Yup.
The game's looking cool.  Nice job on it. :)

I think the controls are too touchy, though.  What if you used getKey=value instead of getKey(value), which would make the keypresses only as fast as the limit in Basic?

nah, I'm going to keep it like this.  It's not that bad on calc, and once I add more objects (>:D) I'm going to need the speed.  ;)

Looks nice!
The contest has forced us to develop so many great games in such a short amount of time.  :)

Update!

added 2 more levels, changed the door sprite, so it works vertically and horizontally (it's actually a cage.  :P), and drew out 3 more levels.  :) (currently editing these levels to make sure they aren't too easy.  ;)

This is a great design! So many great entries!

My only comment is that a key delay would be probably be a good thing...That looks like it has no delay at all, making it look very difficult to maneuver with much accuracy.

It is looking good, but I'd have to agree with ZippyDee, some delay might be good. :)

yeah.  :D

So I got some limited access until tuesday, after that I 'cant be sure.
I added another level, fixed some bugs, removed some loopholes in some levels that makes them too easy, but I can't backup.  :(

Looks nice Yunhua98. I think each level (or world) should use different wall tiles, like in the first screenshot. :)

the first screenie had them all black...

although I might do that, cycle through 4 or 5 sprites maybe?

Or just have them be random.
Title: Re: Contest Entry: Escape!
Post by: yunhua98 on June 13, 2011, 10:03:46 pm
you mean, like randomly reading from RAM?
Title: Re: Contest Entry: Escape!
Post by: Ashbad on June 13, 2011, 10:11:11 pm
Or make a random generating algorithm ;)
Title: Re: Contest Entry: Escape!
Post by: Freyaday on June 14, 2011, 01:49:40 am
Actually, for random sprites, the smallest way to do it would be to have it read from random RAM locations.

Sometimes RAM is not as random as you'd like it to be :P

True dat!
Yeah, random-location reading works great, right up 'til the moment you run into a bunch of zeroes.
