the sprites are pretty nice already, but I guess you might need different ones to represent the difference races.

I love the looks of this game, and I hope you finish it! I would suggest reading the contrast value and use that for the default, then just subtract/add for the contrast effect (which looks really nice, but it can be hard to see some times).
