Title: Ethanderial
Post by: Speler on December 21, 2007, 05:00:00 pm
These past few weeks I've been working on an RPG.

There are a lot of things going into it, and I'll explain more later, but for now here's a screenshot of the movement system (I didn't make most of the sprites... but yeah).

user posted image

(Note that when you climb down the ladder on a real calculator it fades to black and then back to a normal contrast).

Next friday I'll post a big update (Oh!  The suspense!)

That would be my fault.

looks great :thumbup:google.gif

so is this basic + xlib or something else?

is this a solo project or is this that project you, harrierfalcon and some others were working on?

xLib + Basic (it also used Celtic II).  It's a solo project.

Nice looking game! I do have one suggestion though in graphics: when the main character walks on the tiles in the dungeon (I suspect it's a dungeon), he/she/it can sometimes be hard to distinguish from the surrounding tiles. You could modify the tile sprite a bit, or the main character sprite, or both. Best of luck with this project! :)smile.gif

That looks good! O_Oshocked2.gif
Maybe I should get to work on a calculator game that I've been planning for a few weeks already now. If anyone notices this secret comment I might make a topic on it, but for now I won't because so far anything I've officially declared as one of my projects has died. for once...

and if you're not using opera, copying and pasting it in the fast reply works to  ;)wink.gif

I forgot to ask, is the screeny emulating a 83+ or a 84+ (or an 83/84+SE). IMO its a bit to fast for 83+

Drat! I didn't expect anyone to see it that soon! Enough of my threadjacking; expect some formal elaboration later.

I was going to post this on Friday, but I'm not gonna be around:

The world of Ethanderial is full of culture, and many different races.

There are three large cities in Ethanderial.  They are Tork (a city of snowdwelling rocky scaled beings called wurks), Remalia (a city of elves integrated into a forest) and Nitaka (a large city of humans).

The wurks are large and have a hard rock shell from which protrudes the head, arms and legs.  Inside this shell burns an intensely hot fire which keeps the body warm and upon command can be forced out of a wurks mouth.  The wurks live in a very cold and snowy land, most of them in the large city of Tork.  The cold climate keeps the fire burning inside the wurks at a comfortable (for them) temperature.

The elves are fast, quiet and intelligent beings.  They are hidden deep within the forest of Eral and most of them live in the city of Remalia.  They are very serious soldiers.  Very strong.  However, they aren't as dangerous as you would expect, assuming you stay on there good side.

Humans are the most abundant of the races.  There are many medium sized and several large cities of them, however the largest would be Nitaka.  Humans in this world are constantly searching for power and fighting there enemies.  The only two things more important to them then power are money and family.

this reminds me LOTR a lot, I like this style, so I'm sure to like the story in your RPG ^^

Nice idea, looks really good too.

Now I'm just curious about exactly what your character sprite looks like... too small and all...

That and your plans for the battle system and customization... ^_^

I really like the names of the cities :Ptongue.gif
Especially Nitaka.

Tis true, it was.  There is also a small fishing village called Neatham (and many other references such as the isle of Omnimanga).

I was originally hoping to allow you to play as any of the three main races (each with a separate intertwining story line) but that kind of fell apart :/confused.gif.

I still need the sprites for the main character actually... but I'll do them soon.

Combat information will be posted in a month or so.  More information on story and the world of Ethanderial will be posted shortly.

the sprites are pretty nice already, but I guess you might need different ones to represent the difference races.

I love the looks of this game, and I hope you finish it! I would suggest reading the contrast value and use that for the default, then just subtract/add for the contrast effect (which looks really nice, but it can be hard to see some times). :Ptongue.gif
