sry but I have to say I still have no idea for the storyline :(
Like the description says - I need you help!
post your heart out
thx,
lolje

about wat type of storyline are you looking for? sci-fi? Fantasy? Realism?
-
it's up to you
-
Medieval or fantasy would be cool, (I just saw the sword on one of the screenshots)
-
I also like the idea of a medieval style game, except that a lot of games take place during that period. Sci-Fi would also be really cool.
-
Well this is wat i came up with, i hope you like it!
10 years ago my father ruled as the proud king of the beautiful kingdom of Aronis. Peace and prosperity flourished and the kingdom was quickly expanding. Then on one fateful night, my father was murdered, and his dream shattered. Immediately after his death, his three most trusted advisors, Araf, Defer, and Kirld, each set out on a campaign to conquer my father's kingdom. No one looked to me to inherit the throne as I was only 10 at the time. Instead the advisors kidnapped me and left me for the dead. I was a found by a farmer and his wife and they took me in and raised me as their own son. The only mark of royalty on me was the royal crest, given to me by my father. It was a symbol of hope and revenge, as I promised to reunite the kingdom when the time came...
10 years later, the kingdom of Aronis was ravanged by war and terror. The 3 advisors and their armies scoured the land in an endless battle. The farmland was scarred and the cities ruined. It was then that I took action.I traveled to the remaining cities, recruiting soldiers that were still loyal to the throne, or soldiers that were sick of this madness. I slowly gathered an army secretly from beyond the Advisors' watch. It was time for me to reclame the throne and to reunite the land of Aronis. It was time for war, it was time for the Age of Culture!
-From the pages of Prince Edward's Journal,1200 AD.
It's basically Medieval storyline, and i was thinkin the different levels can represent missions, or battles. If you want more info, just pm me ;)

o.o
w00t thank you, I am sure this'll be very useful.
Maybe take this text as kinda intro and then a little text after every won level in the game?
Really great - I hope not everyone already read it :P

wow thats great dragfon lance

I just spent some time on the story and I worked out a little test prog, which shows how it could look like later.
The program doesn't care about the ends and beginnings of the single sentences and I wasn't able to make it look like e.g. the intro from 'The War of MMruda', but I think you can read it and that's the most important thing.
If you have an idea how to improve it or you have a prog which uses a completely different system to display all the texts - please tell me!
Here is the download so that you can check it out:

btw Thanks to Dragon__lance for this really great intro!

I like the story so far. Here are a couple tips/hints, however you use them.
-Lowercase letters, while nice, take twice the memory of their bigger counterparts. (hmm, ironic.)
-Using that engine, to make it put emphasis on ends of words and sentences, just put alot of spaces after the last word on the line. (Mem hogging, yes, but it'll look evenly pleasant.)
-I saw a WoM reference in there. ^-^ A quick but very incomplete overview: In a giant For( loop, I take substrings from the text string and run them through the text decoder. At the same time, I have another string with the graphics being handled, with one part of it displayed on top of another part of it on the graphscreen, making the overlap sprites we love. That's my take on intro programs.
The program itself, you can save three whole bytes by taking off two )'s and one ". The last line, since your already on the homescreen so the program will display Ans, change to a simple ". Finally, I see a Lbl but no Goto.
If I'm wrong about anything, someone please correct me. :)

I didn't really understand the first part of your post, Radical Pi - but
here is an extremely optimized version of the program^^
Everything because of this line:
:sub("TEEEEEEEXT",X,1
So I don't need any variable anymore ;)
Ok - sure, its slower; but...
can you read so fast??? I can't.
Download: http://home.arcor.de/lolje/A.8xp
It's still as crappy as before, so If someone knows how to customize it that it doesn't cut every word that would be fantastic.

here, try this, it's not exactly the best program, but it'll do the job. the prgm included is a Textdecoder, so basically, you feed the program a string stored in Str0, and some coordinates, and it'll display it to the screen. I included the directions in the prgm, for a better version, probably ask tifreak8x for his ;)
-
hmm lol simpel but useful. I'll try it ith this program...
thx

*UPDATE*
originally the storyline was thought for AOCI but I will implement it in AOCII only because it's just too memory consuming.
-
aaah i c ok, will you post it here?
-
post what? The story? It's by Dragon_Lance and he already posted it...
-
ooh sry I didnt meant to offend in any way, I didnt meant to be bad either, IM'm really sry, I thought you meant a different story than dl as well :(

again sry
-
lol? I don't see any bad thing in your post ...
You just didn't understand me allright - there is no problem for me, don't worry
-
well sometimes I post really really stupid stuff, which make me bad
-
not this time :)

i will have to save some RAM by splitting the main-program into some more subroutines, otherwhise I won't be able to integrate that... >.<
Well, i think I can manage it ;)
-
aaah good, well now you see the use of having many sub routines ;)
, in RPGs I ended up with 210 once and I still got memory problems if I had other stuff in RAM while the game was installed
-
What we did for our RPG, since we had a bunch of lists and strings to create, is simply created a setup program that initialized the lists, strings, and variables and asked the user for their name and stored it for reference throughout the game. We then added another element onto a list to tell whether the player has run that program before. We found that splitting the game was much better than having a load screen for 30 seconds.

P.S.: Really sorry about the 50 post thing. I guess if we had read the rules better, we would have held off on posting. But as soon as we hit 50, look for updates!!
P.P.S.: Sorry again!
-
nah this ok, I usually dont expect everyone to read the rules as I tend to forget to read them whenb I sign up on another forums myself as well, plus its not a rule seen on all forums, it's mostly on invisionfree boards, but it seems more and more forums use it now, because in the past people came on their boards, advertised a site, and stopped posting afterward :(

of course I allow anyone to have their site listed in their signature and profile though, regardless of the post count.
-
O.K., cool. We sure didn't join for the sole purpose of advertising.
-
I hope to see progress on your projects ^.^
btw lolje seems back now, he was gone for a while from what he told me on irc, i hope to see progress on AOCII soon
-
btw, are the rules posted anywhere? I probably should read them...

ugh it went dead again... any progress?
-
Well, check out the pinned main thread ;)
