PAINT Image Editor (TI-83+/84)
« on: December 16, 2011, 05:32:08 pm »
This is a project I've been working on for years. When I started making pictures for my BASIC programs, I always hated using the crappy editor in the TI OS. So I went online, but all the picture editors I could find were either slow, hard-to-use, or impractical. So I made my own!

This paint program is built to be useful. I've built it from scratch and added in features over the years when I needed them. Despite being programmed in TI-Basic, it runs nice and quick, easily saves to any of the ten standard TI pictures, and is loaded up with handy tools including different sizes of text, lines, shapes, and fills.

HOW TO USE:
Most of the features are easy to use and are documented in the built-in Help section of the program. However, there are some things I'd still like to put out there for you all:

1. If you'd like to load what's on the graph screen right now, choose the "Pen" option on the "Load" menu.

2. When the picture opens, the cursor is an inverted pixel. This is called "Trace" mode. You can move it around with the arrow keys, or press [2nd] and an arrow key to move it quickly. To draw with it, press "Trace"(F4) or select "1: Pen" from the Tools menu. To erase the pixel, press "Zoom"/F3 or select "Eraser" from the Tools menu on page 2. To go back to Trace mode (moving the cursor without drawing), press "Graph"/F5. The pixel will flicker/appear gray when it is drawing or erasing. You can also press "Y="/F1 for the File menu, or "Window"/F2 for the Tools menu.

3. You can adjust how many pixels the cursor moves when an arrow key is pressed. This is very useful for drawing dotted lines, or filling shapes or portions of the picture. To do this, press Y= to enter the File menu, select "4: Options...", and then select "1: Acceleration". You will then be given a prompt to input the number of pixels the cursor moves with each keypress. Then, you will be taken back to the picture with a standard graph screen cursor. Press ENTER once you're moved the graph screen cursor to where you'd like to start drawing. You can reset this back to the regular 1 pixel per keystroke from the "3: Reset..." in the File menu.

4. If you lose track of the drawing cursor, you can reset its location back to the center of the screen by entering the File menu, selecting "3: Reset" and then "2: Reset Cursor".

5. You can switch between Trace and Pen modes by pressing Enter.

If you've got any other questions, feel free to ask me here and I'll be glad to help!

You can also download the Paint program from the last attachment after the screen shots.

Have you given it a shot?

I built it very specifically to be a more useful program and a viable substitute to the built-in graph-screen drawing. I used it for making pictures for Wind OS, my TI-Basic version of Windows that was designed to crash and be slow.
