Spider (in Axe)
« on: July 21, 2010, 12:10:59 pm »
If you've tried all of Builderboy's incredible games, then at one point you've played Spider: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/413/41359.html  It's a wonderful game and lots of fun, only it's a little slow.  Less than 24 hours ago I had the idea to port it in Axe, and, well, here it is.  The controls are self explanatory, and if you don't understand the gameplay, here's a link to the original readme: http://www.ticalc.org/cgi-bin/zipview?83plus/basic/games/puzzle/strategy/spider.zip;ReadMe.txt .  All my changes were:  There is no Angel Productions logo. :(  The cursor starts where the spider starts.  The high score system has been changed.  There's a pause feature (Press Mode).  Anyway, enjoy this quicker remake of an awesome game!  Let me know what you think!

(This was compiled in Axe 0.3.2 for Ion) ;D

Thank you Builderboy for making this awesome game! :D

Wow looks nice! I think I'll need to read the readme first, though, because I did not have time to check all of his games so I don't really understand what is going on at 100% XD (at first it reminded me of Pipe Dream :P)

Nice job ^^

=(

Quigibo, I have a problem.  If I try to compile this in Axe 0.3.3 it errors Bad Symbol at 65% First Pass.  Any ideas?  :(

Anyway, the version uploaded works, so quick, everyone, try it! ;D

Hmm weird, you would need to ask in the subforum. It could be a syntax change, tho.

At first I thought it was just another pipe game...nice, but I've seen before. Then, I saw you changing the pipes while the spider was moving. Awesome! Did builderboy's do that too, or did you add it in the port?

I'm pretty sure that that part's in both games, especially since it is the game's namesake (it is called spider :P)

Yep, that was in the basic version too :) The only thing he changed were the small things such as the logo, highscores, and the starting position of the cursor.

Oh yeah, I'm phasing out the single argument syntax of Output() because the compiler will automatically optimize that for you if the first 2 arguments are constants.  I haven't implemented the optimization yet but apparently I must have accidentally cut it out of 0.3.3, it was supposed to be a 0.4.0 change, my bad.

Awesome game though!  This is very enjoyable to play.  Can't believe you made it all in 24 hours :D

Wouldn't it be nice to allow it though in case a variable is already correctly formatted? Just a thought.
The Game game is definitely good though.
Edit: Oops... :P

Quigibo nice, sounds like a good idea. Not that I really ever used Output, though, anyway ;D
