HI there. And an explosive first post you have there

(responding to xlibman): Nope, as there aren't any buildings, it wouldn't be of great use. The buildings will come maybe in version 0.4 or 0.5.

Combat, air units and scenarios will be included in the next version (0.3).

I have heard of that project from a guy, Davy8x, who made Starcraft 0.1-0.6 Beta, where you had protoss and could use buildings and probes/zlots/goons. Though there was no combat nor exploration.

[Edit: Okydou, just need to find out that forum now...]

yeah it was someone from maxcoders forums but not the current forums, the old ones at ikonboard (Omnimaga website didn't even existed back then)

I assume so far the game have protoss only right?

And zealots dance quite nicely with marines it seems http://omnimaga.unitedti.org/starcraftlol.wmv

His game only had protoss.

My game has Zerg, Protoss and Terrans (currently, I have those 3) and I might add Mutated Zergs when I add the campaigns (yes, my game engine actually supports 4 races). And each of them has a separate utility bar in-game (currently has that feature).

Lol for the randomness moment!

wow that's nice, how in overall will be mutated zergs? will they be like zergs, weak, but fast to build/spawn/cheap, or like protoss, expensive but powerful?

Data not found...

I don't know, still trying to get the game working completely (combat, buildings, scenarios etc.).

You know the bonus/secret mission when you finish mission x (I don't remember the number) in the Broodwar campaign where you have to kill Duran and his zerg+protoss mutating experiments? I might have those.

Looks awesome so far.  Any multiplayer support planned?

By the way xlibman, what song is that in the starcraftlol.wmv?

Is it going to be turn-based or RTS?

Well, RTS like i said in UTI.

The units can currently do what they are said to do, independently of each other (still respecting collision detection), at the time required.

Many processes/sec will do the job, just update all counters and then if counters have reached what they were supposed, then do the things. For allies and ennemies.

Will there be group selection?
Title: StarCalc 0.2 Beta
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on January 27, 2007, 01:02:00 pm
do you think game will run fast enough even with 200 units on the screen? especially zerglings? Or will you limit the unit to 9-100 on certain calcs, like the amount in warcraft III?

Btw the song in the movie is Sandstorm by Darude
Title: StarCalc 0.2 Beta
Post by: Fallen Ghost on January 27, 2007, 02:17:00 pm
Yes multi-select, but not for now now. Maybe in 0.3 or 0.4.

As for the screen, the max possible is 6*8 (tile count) and 5*8 if you have selected a unit. So a max of 48 units at the same time. For the process time, I'll try to make a system so that time is counted to allow continous speed.

The most of the time of process is made by drawing the unit and by fastcopying. (I think)

Now i just noticed the minimap, this is amazing!

Post by: dinhotheone on February 02, 2007, 04:14:00 pm
i assume it'll be tough to balance zerg with toss using only a 48 unit max. this "small" amount of units seems like it will amplify toss' power.

anyway this looks amazing, i played bw for 4 years before i got tired of it. im so happy that one of favorite games is coming to the calc. and as of this point its coming to the calc quite spectaularly.

Oh my gosh I was looking for this project page but I was looking for Starcraft instead of Starcalc and it was right in front of my face haha[/offtopic]

Anyways back on topic I cannot wait 'til this game is released this looks so sick. I love turn-based strategy games.
Title: StarCalc 0.2 Beta
Post by: Fallen Ghost on February 03, 2007, 04:30:00 am
Lol Halifax :)smile.gif

Dinhotheone, each side (ennemy and player) will have 200 units and 200 buildings.

48 is the max number of units viewable in the same time on the screen. Not the max unit possible that you can have.

Note this is going to be REAL-time strategy, not turn-based.

I would hope you try and keep it true to SC.
Title: StarCalc 0.2 Beta
Post by: Fallen Ghost on February 03, 2007, 05:56:00 am
That's what I try to do mostly (to keep it as close of SC than I can):

-Non-turn-based
-Exploration (possibly fog of war)
-Combat animations like in SC

Some functionalities, like pathfinding, will be excluded because they take too much processing and RAM (unless someone tells me how to do that).
Title: StarCalc 0.2 Beta
Post by: rivereye on February 03, 2007, 06:24:00 am
that is understandable. I hope this does well. The mini map might be hard to do though.

will the units be bigger based in the size of the real game, i went to uti and saw your sprite sheet and it look like the goliath was the size of a marine, but then there are other units with bigger sizes.
Title: StarCalc 0.2 Beta
Post by: Fallen Ghost on February 04, 2007, 07:48:00 am
Oh, yeah, the goliath is pretty ugly for now, but I haven't made a replacement for it, so I didn't change it. Bigger units in SC will be bigger in my game, so proportions are respected (note: as I have only 10*10 on-calc, it might be not ALL proportionned, but I will try to).

i just recently pulled out my old sc brood war cd and played a few games, it got me thinking about the calc version, anything new about this game?
Title: StarCalc 0.2 Beta
Post by: Fallen Ghost on March 24, 2007, 03:49:00 pm
Well, yes. I might do a video of it in some time. But the only next public release will be 1.0 version. Not before. Or maybe beta-testing...

Anyway, I'll definitely let you guys know what happens with it, i've been on a break for several weeks for school projects, but I restarted yesterday.

Release estimated time: Summer, hopefully before Kevin gets back!

me and my friends werre talking about sc2 and i started thinking about how i havent heard anything oin this game in about 3 months. sc2 is coming, is starcalc still coming too?
Title: StarCalc 0.2 Beta

It's still coming (for the moment). I'm using Elfprince's idea to sort things out and if it works, then it will work fast enough to make StarCalc worth continuing.

coming out from the grave:

option #1:
with 400 units+buildings total (aka 200 each), ~2.5 frames/sec
with 200 units+buildings total (aka 100 each), ~4-5 frames/sec

but units will target instantly while idle or attack move, and splash attacks will not create lag.

option #2:
with 400 units+buildings total (aka 200 each), ~4 frames/sec
with 200 units+buildings total (aka 100 each), ~6-8 frames/sec

but units will take 16 frames to search through all the units, and splash attacks (aka mass tanks or reaver) will induce lag like hell

your choice?
Title: StarCalc 0.2 Beta
Post by: Delnar_Ersike on June 26, 2007, 12:38:00 pm
I'd rather take normal lag throughout the game than normal speed throughout the game but with periods of huge lag, so option #1 is my choice with 200 units+buildings total (aka 100 each), ~4-5 frames/sec.

How is it progressing? It would rule if this was finished, Starcraft has been the most played game for years on the web and even after 10 years of his release it's still very popular
