CompareCalc A new website by annoyingcalc
« on: October 18, 2013, 10:55:56 pm »
Check out this new website I am working on at
http://comparecalc.comli.com/
I currently do not have the domain comparecalc.com FYI.
The website is a Work In Progress, I am aiming to create a website where users can compare calculators, right now I have ti-83 plus to ti-84 C and the Nspire CX, I am planning to add way more calculator models to the site and have a feature where you can compare calculators side by side.

I would like maybe a better logo, and if I could get any better design ideas it would be appreciated. I somehow am managing to get this done during school, so when I have time I do work on other things, but this is what I will work on at school.

Any suggestions? My website is FAR from perfect.

This seems kinda nice. Just keep in mind that TI-Planet already have such tool, though, at http://tiplanet.org/forum/compare.php . What you could add, though, are some pricing ranges depending of countries or the official MSRP's. Also add links to websites where programs can be downloaded (Omni, Cemetech, Ticalc, TI-Planet, Espace TI-83, Hpcalc, Planète-Casio, etc). And yeah being able to compare calcs side by side would be a big plus.

ALso maybe make the logo less 1998 (I mean, get rid of the white stuff around text :P)

Ok, yeah I threw the logo together pretty quickly, I do suck in the graphic field, but ok thanks for the feedback!

Actually, make the site less 1998 xD

Anyway, a thing to compare prices from different stores would be nice too.

Remember the day the walrus started to fly...

I finally cleared my sig after 4 years you're happy now?

Sorry for the negative feedback, but where things go well, I don't know what to say, so I only speak about things that are wrong. But don't think there are only wrong things in your website, there are good things.

So, for the negative feedback :
  • You have a picture of a CX CAS on the CX page
  • Your comparison is not professionnal. For example you say "the CX is by far my favorite" which shows your opinion, but people may not like what you like in this calc so a list of features would be necessary and sufficient (in my opinion). Same for the 84+CSE (that you actually called 84+C on your main page even though the 84+C doesn't exist) where you seem to describe the CSE as a pure evolution from the SE, like with no drawback, not mentionning at all its slowness in menus.
  • As others mentionned, the website is a bit 1998, but at least it is fast. I would not necessarily add a lot of graphical effects, but please change the image on the first page.
I own: 83+ ; 84+SE ; 76.fr ; CX CAS ; Prizm ; 84+CSE
Sorry if I answer with something that seems unrelated, English is not my primary language and I might not have understood well. Sorry if I make English mistakes too.

that can be avoided by defining a charset (probably utf-8) to avoid browser defaults overwriting stuff

I use Chromium and it should normally default to UTF-8. Also I extracted and installed Win7 fonts with the AUR file, maybe that has something to do with it ?

could be, but it is always good to specify a charset in the meta tags, that is just one line of html!

Also, looking at the source, you didn't open <html> and you don't use <body> and after you close </html> you still have more stuff
